If you are a member of the Advanced or Mastery Orchestra and plan to perform in Savannah at the GMEA State Conference, a NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT of $100.00 is due by November 1st.

It is critical that I know who is planning on performing for programming purposes.  I also need a final number in order to determine the final cost of the trip.  At this time the cost is still estimated to be $250-300 per student.  Costs for chaperones should be about $150.00.

More detailed information will be available by the end of this week and will be posted on the blog.

As always, checks should payable to HOBC.  No Cash.

Thanks,

Doke

The October HOBC meeting was quick and painless.  Here are the highlights:

The Krispy Kreme fundraiser has been very successful so far.  We are selling Krispy Kremes every Tuesday and Thursday morning before school for $5.00 per box.  Money from this fundraiser will be used to offset the cost of transportation for the Savannah trip.

Teresa Caldwell was installed as the HOBC Fund-raising Chair.

Thanks to Eric Wright for securing a venue for the Orchestra Banquet, which will be held at Burnt Hickory Baptist Church on May 14th.

The Annual Orchestra Dinner Theater will be held on December 3rd.  Parents volunteers are still needed.

The Fall Orchestra Concert is coming up on Thursday, October 22nd, and All-State / Honor Orchestra auditions will be held on October 24th at Westminster.

If you haven’t paid your 2009-2010 orchestra dues, please send in your $50.00 check, payable to HOBC, ASAP.

Orchestra Uniform Fitting on Thursday, September 24th

In order for our orchestra  to maintain a professional look when performing, each student must purchase an orchestra uniform. Informal uniforms of black orchestra knit polo and khaki pants (or skirt) will be worn for events such as Senior Project performances, fundraising events, and any orchestra field trips.  Formal uniforms will be worn at all formal concert events.

Our young ladies will wear full-length black dresses and the young men will wear black tuxedos with black bowties and cummerbunds.

Boys will wear a standard tux with adjustable-waist pants.  The COST of $135.00 includes pants, coat, shirt, cummerbund, bowtie, cufflinks, and button covers. Each tux will be fitted to the student and delivered in a hanging bag. If your student already owns a tux with black cummerbund and bowtie, then no purchase is necessary.  Boys must wear black shoes and sock as part of the uniform.

Girls will wear formal dresses.  It has an empire waist which is flattering to any body type and is made of a machine washable material that needs no ironing!  It also will be fitted to each student and delivered in a hanging bag.  The COST is $85.00. Girls must wear black shoes and nylons as part of the uniform.

The informal black orchestra knit polo shirt is included with the purchase of tuxedos and dresses.  Khaki pants must be purchased separately.

The tuxes and full-length dresses will be the Hillgrove Orchestra standard uniform for years to come, therefore, seniors could possibly offer their uniform for sale to incoming students.

Kim King from STA Apparel will come to Hillgrove in on Thursday, September 24th to fit students for tuxes and dresses.  For the fitting, please have your student to wear something fitted, like a t-shirt, so that he/she can be measured.  Kim will have coats (he will measure for pants) and different dress sizes to try over clothing.  Uniforms will be delivered prior to the Fall Concert.

Boys Uniform Cost – $135.00         Girls Uniform Cost – $85.00

Payment is required at the time of the fitting.  Please make checks payable to HOBC and send in an envelope to be placed in the orchestra room lockbox.  Make sure to note your child’s name on the “for” portion of your check.  The Booster club will make one check to the company upon delivery of uniforms.

Please note that this is not a fundraiser for the HOBC.

Attention Advanced and Mastery Orchestra Members – Publicity photos will be taken on Tuesday, 9/8.
