About the Orchestras

Congratulations to the Hillgrove Advanced Orchestra for being selected to perform at the Georgia Music Educators State Conference in Savannah.  Hillgrove is one of three orchestras in the state to be selected for this honor.  This is a tremendous achievement to accomplish in just three years.  Hillgrove will perform on Thursday, January 28 at 2 PM at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center.

Hillgrove High School was opened in the Fall of 2006, and is a part of the Cobb County School System. Hillgrove is located in Powder Springs, Georgia, a northwest suburb of Atlanta.

In December of 2006 the Hillgrove Chamber Orchestra performed at the Georgia Governor’s Mansion.  In each of the first three years of participation at the GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation, Hillgrove has earned overall “Superior” ratings.

The 2007-2008 school year saw the orchestra grow to include nearly 100 students. In April of 2008 the Hillgrove Festival Orchestra traveled to Williamsburg, Virginia and Washington, DC to perform at the Heritage Music Festival, and was awarded the festival’s “Outstanding String Orchestra Award.”

Most recently the Hillgrove Orchestra was selected to perform at the 2009 GMEA State Conference in Savannah.

The Fine Arts Department at Hillgrove includes the Concert Bands and the Hillgrove Marching Band, all under the direction of Mr. Christopher Ferrell and Mr. Patrick Erwin. Hillgrove’s Choral Department is under the direction of Mr. Wesley Stoner. The Hillgrove Drama Department is headed by Ms. Rickie Newell.  Jennie Collier-Johnson and Mimi Kerpoe teach Visual Arts.
