About the Orchestras

Hillgrove is located in Powder Springs, Georgia, a suburb northwest of Atlanta.The Hillgrove Orchestra Program is under the direction of Mr. David Doke, who also serves as Fine Arts Department Chair. In December of 2006 the Hillgrove Chamber Orchestra performed at the Georgia Governor’s Mansion, and at the 2007 and 2008 GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation, both orchestras earned overall “Superior” ratings.The 2007-2008 school year has seen the orchestra grow to include nearly 100 students.  In April of 2008 the Hillgrove Festival Orchestra traveled to Williamsburg, Virginia and Washington, DC to perform at the Heritage Music Festival, and was awarded the festival’s “Outstanding String Orchestra Award.”The Fine Arts Department at Hillgrove includes the Concert Bands and the Hillgrove Marching Band, all under the direction of Mr. Christopher Ferrell and Mr. Patrick Erwin. Hillgrove’s Choral Department is under the direction of Ms. Nikki Alvarez. The Hillgrove Drama Department is headed by Ms. Rickie Newell, and Jennie Collier-Johnson teaches Visual Arts.
