Orchestra Fees Due on October 1st
The annual orchestra fee of $50.00 is due by October 1st.
Uniform Fitting September 23rd – 10:00 AM
Orchestra Uniform Fitting on September 23 10:00 AM
Payment is Due at Fitting
In order for our orchestra students to maintain a professional look when performing, each student must purchase an orchestra uniform. Informal uniforms of black orchestra knit polo and khaki pants (or skirt) will be worn for events such as Senior Project performances, fundraising events, and any orchestra field trips. Formal uniforms will be worn at all formal concert events.
Boys will wear a standard tux with adjustable-waist pants. The COST of $135.00 includes pants, coat, shirt, cummerbund, bowtie, cufflinks, and button covers. Each tux will be fitted to the student and delivered in a hanging bag. If your student already owns a tux with black cummerbund and bowtie, then no purchase is necessary. If you need a cummerbund/bowtie/cufflink set, they can be purchased at any local formalwear store. Boys must wear black shoes and sock as part of the uniform.
Girls will wear the dress shown. It has an empire waist which is flattering to any body type and is made of a machine washable material that needs no ironing! It also will be fitted to each student and delivered in a hanging bag. The COST is $85.00. Girls must wear black shoes and nylons as part of the uniform.
The informal black orchestra knit polo shirt is included with the purchase of tuxedos and dresses. Khaki pants must be purchased separately.
The tuxes and full-length dresses will be the Hillgrove Orchestra standard uniform for years to come, therefore, seniors could possibly offer their uniform for sale to incoming students.
Kim King from STA Apparel will come to Hillgrove on September 23rd to fit students for tuxes and dresses. For the fitting, please have your student to wear something fitted, like a t-shirt, so that he/she can be measured. Kim will have coats (he will measure for pants) and different dress sizes to try over clothing. Uniforms will be delivered prior to the Fall Concert on October 21st.
Boys Uniform Cost – $135.00
Girls Uniform Cost – $85.00
Payment is required at the time of the fitting on September 23rd. Please make checks payable to HOBC and send in an envelope to be placed in the orchestra room lockbox. Make sure to note your child’s name on the “for” portion of your check. The Booster club will make one check to the company upon delivery of uniforms.
Please note that this is not a fundraiser for the HOBC.
All-State and District Honor Orchestra Information
2008-2009 All State Orchestra Information
Audition Payment Due Date: Friday, September 5
District Level Audition: Saturday, October 25, Pope High School
State Level Audition: Saturday, January 17, Westminster
All-State Weekend: Thursday, March 5 – Saturday, March 7, Savannah
Dear Parents and Students,
All State Orchestra is a symphony orchestra sponsored by the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA). Selected high school musicians are among the best in Georgia, and the groups are conducted by nationally known clinicians. Students must go through a rigorous audition process in order to be selected for this highly prestigious event. There are two orchestra levels for high school: a 9/10 grade orchestra and an 11/12 grade orchestra.
There are two auditions for All State: district level and state level. At the district level you are required to play scales, an etude, and sight reading. Students who pass the district level audition will go on to the state level. At the state level you are required to play excerpts and two sight reading exercises.
The actual All State Orchestra event for those who are selected is held in Savannah, GA on a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. This is an excused absence from school. Transportation, food and lodging for All State events is the responsibility of the parent. If you are selected you will receive a letter with hotel and schedule information.
The etudes, scale requirements, and excerpts are posted on the GMEA website in the orchestra handbook, and also on the orchestra division page in the All State section: http://www.gmea.org/ . The requirements for the district level audition are attached. The etude book should be purchased from a local music store or mail order catalog. You must own the etude book or cd sheet music. You cannot perform from a Xerox copy at the audition.
The fee to audition at the district level is $18.00. Please send a check made payable to HOBC by Friday, September 5, and begin practicing! If you turn in your audition fee, you are committed to this audition. Students who do not show up for the audition will have letter points deducted. If you need help with your music or scales, please arrange a time for me to help you.
Good Luck!
