Reminder – Trip Payment #2 is due on Friday (2/1/08)

The second trip payment of $200.00 is due this Friday, February 1st.  Please check your account balance.  If you wish to use money from your account, fill out a withdraw request form and put it in the lock box in Mr. Doke’s office.  If you wish to pay more, that is fine.  The HOBC Executive Board will meet on Wednesday evening to finalize details for the trip and determine final costs.  Details will be made available as soon as possible.

GMEA 2008 Orchestra Festival Information

As I’m sure everyone already know, both orchestras having been working very hard in preparation for the 2008 GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE), which will held on February 12-14 at the McEachern High School Performing Arts Center. To help us better prepare for this festival, both orchestras will present their programs in the Hillgrove Theater on Thursday, February 7 at 7 PM.The LGPE program is sponsored by the Georgia Music Educators Association and is an evaluation procedure of musical performances and sight-reading abilities for individual students, performing groups, and teachers. Large Group Performance Evaluation participation affords a valuable opportunity and motivation for learning during an extended period. Recognized authorities in the field of music education will critique our performances and provide their written and oral comments. In addition to the experience of performing at the festival, our students will also have the chance to observe the performances of other orchestras from around the county. All festival performances are open to the public, and friends and family are encouraged to attend.Here are some additional details for each orchestra that parents need to be aware of:Permission forms will be sent home the week of January 28th.INTERMEDIATE CONCERT ORCHESTRA -Festival performance will be on Thursday, February 14 at 12:45 AM. Intermediate Orchestra Members will be taking a Field Trip for this performance, leaving Hillgrove at 10:00 AM and returning by 2:00 PM. Pizza and refreshments will be available for a nominal fee. I would suggest bringing $10.00.Parents need to sign and return all forms to Mr. Doke by Friday, February 3.ADVANCED CHAMBER ORCHESTRA -Festival performance will be on TUESDAY, February 12 at 7:15. Advanced Orchestra Members will also be taking a Field Trip for this performance. However, ALL CHAMBER ORCHESTRA MEMBERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN TRANSPRTATION TO AND FROM THE FESTIVAL. Please arrive at McEachern no later than 6:00 PM to check in. We should be finished by 8:30.Parents need to sign and return all forms to Mr. Doke by Friday, February 3.Concert Dress is required for all performances.I look forward to seeing everyone at the Hillgrove Pre-Festival Concert next Thursday, February 7, at 7PM, and hopefully again at the festival performances at McEachern on February 12-14. Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a great break and that you are all well-rested. We will be working very hard beginning this week as we prepare for the GMEA Festival which will be held on February 12-14 at McEachern High School. We have only 21 rehearsals until our Pre-Festival Concert on February 7th. Please be sure that you have all of the music that you need, with proper bowings and fingerings. We will have several auditions over the next month, so be prepared!
Also, please remember that the second trip payment of $250.00 is due on February 1st. All checks should be made to HOBC, and placed in the lock box in my my office. Parents planning to chaperone need to let me know ASAP (before February 1). Cost for chapreones will be finalized after we have determined how many chparones we will have…it should be around $250-$300 for each chaperone.
