Atlanta Symphony Open Rehearsal This Wednesday - 3/7

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will hold a free open rehearsal on Wednesday night. They will perform the Vaughn Williams Sea Symphony, which they have recorded, and which won a Grammy for “Best Classical Album” in 2001. The Orchestra is also playing Debussy nocturnes. This is the final perfomance before the Orchestra and Chorus leave for ACDA in Miami, FL. The doors open at 7:45 and the rehearsal begins at 8:00 pm.

Congratulations on “Superior” ratings for both Orchestras at Festival!

Congratulations to all members of the Hillgrove Orchestra Program on your festival performances this week. Both of Hillgrove’s orchestras received overall ’superior’ ratings, and the Advanced Orchestra received perfect scores in all categories from all judges! The Hillgrove Orchestra Program has arrived!

Some of the judges comments were as follows:

Intermediate Orchestra - “good tone quality”, “beautiful”, “good solo”, “nice staccato”, “basses produced a very nice tone”, and “excellent program!”

Advanced Orchestra - “Great energy, sound, texture, balance, ensemble & musicality”, “very good focus of tone”, “excellent intonation”, “fantastic bow control”, “excellent definition of length of notes”, “wonderful interpretation”, “nice sound, excellent tone in celli and bass”, “outstanding musical performance”, and “Great Job, BRAVO!”

I was very pleased with the performances of both orchestras. We should all be very proud of what we have accomplished this semester as we prepared for festival.

Congratulations on a job well-done! Now let’s take it to the next level…
