Important Orchestra Uniform Information – Uniform Fitting on Thursday, March 1st

Dear Orchestra Parents,

I am sure all of you were impressed with the Orchestras last Thursday! They sounded great and will represent Hillgrove well at the Festival. As mentioned at the concert last week, Orchestra performance attire has been chosen. Uniforms will give the Hillgrove Orchestras a more professional and harmonious appearance. Our young ladies will wear full-length black dresses and the young men will wear black tuxedos with black bowties and cummerbunds. The HOBC will purchase additional Hillgrove “red” cummerbunds and bowties for our annual Holiday concert.

After much research and input, Mr. Doke and the Executive Board came to the conclusion that each child should own their uniform. Mr. Doke then set out to find dresses and tuxedos that would be durable, comfortable, stylish and affordable.

Boys will wear a standard tux with adjustable-waist pants. The COST of $115.00 includes pants, coat, shirt, cummerbund, bowtie, cufflinks, and button covers. Each tux will be fitted to the student and delivered in a hanging bag. If your student already owns a tux with black cummerbund and bowtie, then no purchase is necessary. If you need a cummerbund/bowtie/cufflink set, pricing is nominal. Let Mr. Doke know.

Girls dresses have an empire waist which is flattering to any body type and is made of a machine washable material that needs no ironing! It also will be fitted to each student and delivered in a hanging bag. The COST is $65.00.

The tuxes and full-length dresses will be the Hillgrove Orchestra standard uniform for years to come, therefore, seniors could possibly offer their uniform for sale to incoming students. We will be debuting this concert attire at our May concert. We will look great and be ready for the 2007-2008 school year.

Kim King from STA Apparel will be at Hillgrove this Thursday, March 1st from 10:30-12:30 to fit students for tuxes and dresses. Mrs. Ranallo has offered to assist in the sizing. Please have your student to wear something fitted, like a t-shirt, so that he/she can be measured. Kim will have coats (he will measure for pants) and different dress sizes to try over clothing. Payment for the uniforms will be accepted at any time, but will be due no later than April 20th.

As stated, this will be the Hillgrove Orchestra uniform and should be worn when formal concert attire is requested. We are placing the order now so that our May concert will look as spectacular as it will sound, and we will be ready for the 2007-08 season. Please make checks payable to HOBC and send in an envelope to Mrs. Ford in the Library. Make sure to note your child’s name on the “for” portion of your check. The Booster club will make one check to the company upon delivery of uniforms.

Thank you for your continued support of the Hillgrove Orchestras,

Mr. Doke and the HOBC Executive Board Members

Great Job at the Pre-Festival Concert!

I just wanted to tell everyone how pleased I was with both orchestras at the Pre-Festival Concert. I thought that the Intermediate Orchestra played as well as I have ever heard them, and the Advanced Orchestra played at the level that I have come to expect. Keep up the great work and let’s all have great performances at festival this week!

Great Rehearsals Today!

I want to thank both orchestras for being so attentive during Dr. Alexander’s visit today. We had great rehearsals in both classes, and Dr. Alexander was impressed not only with your musicianship and hard work, but with your level of maturity as well. He was very complimentary about both orchestras and told me that he really enjoyed working with you guys.

We still have a week to go until our Pre-Festival Concert and two weeks until Festival. Remember, the work we do over the coming days will be the most important of the semester…Keep it up!

Dr. Alexander to Visit Hillgrove

Dr. Michael Alexander, Music Director of the Cobb Symphony and Kennesaw State University Orchestras, will be returning to Hillgrove on Wednesday, February 14th to work with both orchestras as we prepare for festival. We are very fortunate to have such a talented professional musician to work with us…please work hard on your parts and be prepared.
