Big Chicken Chorus Information

Dear Orchestra Parents and Supporters,

We have a wonderful fundraising opportunity! The Big Chicken Chorus, a barbershop-style singing chorus, will be performing three shows December 1st and 2nd in the Hillgrove Theater. Entertaining for audiences both young and old, The BCC has performed throughout the U.S., in Canada and in England. Here at home, they’ve played venues such as the Fabulous Fox, the Georgia Dome, and Symphony Hall.

The Big Chicken Chorus has graciously offered to give the Hillgrove Orchestra $5 for each ticket we sell. Tickets are $20.00 with a $2.00 discount for seniors (60+) and students. Even if we sell a discounted ticket, we get $5.00! We are asking that each Orchestra student sell at least 10 tickets. The money made will go into the General Fund to pay for professional fees, festival fees, Orchestra Letters earned, uniforms, and incidentals for the end-of-the-year banquet. We will also be selling concessions, ushering, performing during intermission, and keeping the theater clean for the performances. This is an amazing opportunity. If we sell 10 tickets per student, we will make $2900.00! Top 3 sellers can win!

Outlined below is the procedure to sell tickets. Please read carefully:

1. Students will take ticket orders on the attached Order Sheet. (Also attached is an informational brochure for students to SHOW customers. You may copy and give out, but make sure to tell people to say the heard about the show from the Hillgrove Orchestra). Fill out the Order Form completely, so that we have names/numbers of ticket purchasers. Make sure to indicate which show the tickets are for – Friday, 8pm; Saturday, 3pm; or Saturday, 8pm.

2. Collect money as you take the orders. Checks should be made payable to HOBC (Hillgrove Orchestra Booster Club). **see note for Credit Card orders

3. Beginning Monday, November 13th, Mrs. Carter will be in the Orchestra room on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:45 – 8:20 to collect money and order forms. She will check the order form, record the number of tickets and money, and give a receipt.

4. The tickets and order form will be placed in an envelope with your student’s name and be available for pickup after school on Friday, Nov. 17th and Wed., Nov. 21st from Mrs. Ford in the Library (before 4pm). This way, students aren’t carrying the tickets around with them during the day. You will know what day to expect the tickets. . Parents, you may come pickup the tickets if you like. We’d like all orders turned in before the Thanksgiving Holidays in order to distribute tickets. Ticket may be sold after that date, but will have to be picked up at the Will Call Table before the Concert.

**If patrons wish to use a credit card for payment, they can order on-line at www.bigchickenchorus.org or by phone: 770-992-9272. However, they must say that heard about the show from the Hillgrove Orchestra for us to get a portion of the ticket sale. If ordering from the website, customers should choose ‘Hillgrove Orchestra’ from the pull-down menu in
“Marketing Source”.

Hillgrove Dedication

The official dedication of Hillgrove High School will take place this Sunday at 3:00 in the Hillgrove Theater and the Hillgrove Orchestras have been invited to perform.

I apologize for the late notice, but I hope that everyone can make arrangements to attend.
Originally the performance was going to be in the Media Center, which wouldn’t be large enough for our entire orchestra. However, since the location has been changed to the theater, we will now be able to include everyone.

I would like to invite ALL orchestra members to participate in the ceremony on Sunday. Students should arrive no later than 2:00 PM for a brief rehearsal. The performance will be from 3:00-3:30. Parents are also invited and encouraged to attend.

This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our talents for the community and it is important that we put on our best show. We will be performing the Brandenburg Concerto No. # 3 by Bach, and Ashokan Farewell by Jay Unger, which has been named the school Alma Mater. Please dress in your “Sunday Best” for this performance.

The following speakers will be at the dedication:
Dr. Theresa Plenge, Chairperson of the Board of Education
Lindsey Tippins, from the Board of Education
Fred Sanderson Cobb County School Superintendent
Earl Ehrhart, Georgia State Representative
Dr. and Mrs. Harry Hill

Please make arrangements to be in attendance at this important event!

Important Booster Club Meeting on Thursday, November 9th

There will be an important Hillgrove Orchestra Booster Club meeting next Thursday, November 9th at 7 PM in the Orchestra Room. We will be discussing the following items:

We will also be in charge of concessions for each of these shows. This could be our biggest fundraising event of the year.

2) Winter Concert and Dinner Theater planning. We need to get started on the Dinner Theater event.

3) Orchestra T-shirts and spirit wear. We have several ideas for t-shirts, magnets, etc.

4) Discussion of Spring Trip to Florida.
