Bravo!
Congratulations to all Hillgrove Orchestra members on their fine performance at the Fall Concert. Our orchestra students worked very hard preparing for this concert and I would be the first to say that it was a very good performance. Mr. Boland was pleased with the concert and there were many compliments from parents about the quality of our work. Great job students…it’s only going to get better!
I also want to thank everyone who volunteered to help with concessions and Booster Club memberships.
Our next performance will be The Winter Concert and Dinner Theater on December 14th from 5:00-9:00 PM.
The Tradition Begins!—Hillgrove Orchestra Premiere Concert Information
The Hillgrove Orchestra’s Fall Concert will be held next Thursday, October 26 at 7 PM in the Hillgrove Theater. The concert should last about 40 minutes with no intermission. After the concert, there will be a very short Booster Club Meeting to discuss future activities for the year.
Here is some important information regarding the day of the concert. It would be very helpful if there are any parents that are available to help manage the afternoon. Please give me a call at school (678-331-3961 ext. 249) or send me an email (david.doke@cobbk12.org).
1) Students should plan on staying at Hillgrove after school on Thursday, October 26th until the concert. IF students do need to go home after school, please make arrangements to be back for a dress rehearsal at 5 PM SHARP. The schedule for the rest of the evening is very tight…please be on time.
2) After school on the day of the concert, Lifetouch Studios will be set up to take individual portraits from 3:30 - 5:00. There is no obligation to buy, but everyone should have a portrait made with their concert clothes and instruments. Portraits will begin immediately after school in the orchestra room. (Group photos will be taken on stage at 6 PM.)
3) I will be ordering pizza for orchestra students after school. If a student would like to have pizza, they will need to bring $4.00 for the pizza and some change for a drink out of the vending machines here at school. We will have the pizza in the hallway outside of the orchestra room between 4 and 5 PM. Students must remain in the immediate Fine Arts area between 4 and 7 PM. DO NOT WANDER THE HALLS!
4) Both orchestras will rehearse together on stage from 5:00-5:45. This is extremely important…this is the ONLY opportunity that we have to rehearse together. Please make plans to be at this rehearsal.
5) Group photos will be taken on stage at 6 PM.
6) The performance will begin promptly at 7 PM.
7) Please make sure that all students have appropriate concert clothes for the performance.
Gentlemen will wear black pants, black socks and shoes, white shirt and black bowtie. A black suit or tuxedo would be appropriate as well.
Ladies will wear long black dresses or black pants/skirt with black hose, black shoes, white blouse. Please keep exposed skin to a minumum…no spaghetti straps and go easy on the jewelry.
This is going to be a great first concert for us….the first of many! Please let your friends and family know about it, and be sure to come and support these talented young musicians!
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the concert!

Orchestra Portraits
Lifetouch Studios will be doing orchestra portraits on October 26th after school. These will be individual shots of students in their concert clothes with their instruments. “The Music in ME” to be shown on HBO next Tuesday.
I just got notice that the HBO Family Special “the MUSIC in ME” will premiere next Tuesday, Oct 10th at 8:30. This is a documentary that features several amazing, talented young musicians talking about and playing music. I saw a little bit of this last August, and it is fantastic! I understand that there are some students from Cobb County that are featured. Try to make plans to watch it or record it.
