All-State and Cobb County Honor Orchestra Information
Great News! Honor Orchestra is going to be held at the Dozier Center with Conductor Dr.Michael Alexander, Director of the Cobb Symphony and Kennesaw State Ochestra. I really hope that we have a good number of students audition…it will great to see some of you representing Hillgrove at Honor Orchestra and/or All-State. Please consider taking these auditions…Here is the latest information on GMEA All-State Orchestra and Cobb County Honor Orchestra:
Cobb County Honor Orchestra Audition:
Audition fee: $13.00 / Participation fee $15.00
Audition is on October 3, 2006 @ Sprayberry High School
Sectionals and Rehearsals: (These dates have changed slightly since the last post.) October 23, November 7, and November 10-11, 2006
Performance will be held November 11, 2006 at the Dozier Center in Kennesaw, Georgia

GMEA All-State Orchestra Auditions:

District Auditions – October 28, 2006 @ Pope High School
State Level Auditions – January 13, 2007 @ Westminster
GMEA All-State will be held March 1-3, 2008 in Savannah, Georgia.

Audition material will be the same for both auditions. However, these are two separate events. If you make Cobb County Honor Orchestra, you must still audition for GMEA All-State. Auditions will include a prepared etude, scales and arpeggios, and sight-reading.

Sept 1 Playing Test
The first playing test for a grade will be on Friday, September 1. Students will prepare the two octave C Major, G Major, and D Major scales and arpeggios to be played in front of the class for a grade.
Remember, the more you prepare, the better you will play. Don’t hope for a good result…practice slowly and properly and be certain of a good result. Good luck!
Booster Club News
The first meeting of the Hillgrove Orchestra Booster Club (HOBC) was held on Thursday, August 24. Here is a short recap of what was accomplished…
The name of the Booster Club will be The Hillgrove Orchestra Booster Club (HOBC).
Executive Board and Committee chairs were chosen (see previous post). Each position will be for two years with an option to renew.
Mary Smith (treasurer) will open an account at SunTrust for HOBC.
Dues for membership will be $25.00. Membership is open to anyone who wishes to support the Hillgrove Orchestra Program.
The Executive Board will review a draft of bylaws and present completed bylaws at the next booster club meeting for a vote. The bylaws draft can be viewed at the link to the right.
Dates for General HOBC meetings are:

November 9
January 11
March 8
Other meetings for the Executive Board and Committee Chairs may be called as needed.
Everyone is welcome to attend any HOBC meeting. All meetings will be in the Hillgrove Orchestra room beginning at 7:00 and ending by 8:30.

All-State and Cobb County Honor Orchestra Information
It’s time to begin preparing for All-State Orchestra auditions and Cobb County Honor Orchestra auditions…
District level All-State auditions will be held on October 28th at Pope High School. Information is available at the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) website (listed at the bottom of our links on the right side of this page).
Cobb County Honor Orchestra auditions will be held October 3rd at Sprayberry High School. Information is available at the Sprayberry Orchestra Website (listed at the bottom of our links on the right side of this page).
Even if you do not plan to audition, I would encourage all orchestra students to learn and practice the required scales and etudes for these auditions. These are great excercises that will foster better musicianship and confidence for anyone working on them. See Mr. Doke if you plan to audition for either or both orchestras. More information will be posted as it becomes available. Good luck to everyone who plans to audition!
